Why should I monitor my blood pressure?

Last updated on: 07 September 2017

There are many reasons that your doctor may recommend that you monitor your blood pressure at home. Monitoring can be useful in diagnosing, preventing and managing high blood pressure.

You may have heard that high blood pressure is often referred to as “the silent killer”. This is because most patients that have high blood pressure do not feel the effects and therefore may not seek treatment until it is too late.

Since your blood pressure does not stay constant throughout the day, and is influenced by many factors, one single blood pressure measurement may not be sufficient for an accurate diagnosis.

Regular blood pressure monitoring at home can therefore help you and your doctor to build up an accurate picture of your health.
