Diverse Nationalities, Unified Perspectives: Insights from Our ESC Congress 2024 Survey
The ESC Congress 2024 in London, United Kingdom, was quite a success, drawing 31,800 participants from across the globe. This gathering of healthcare professionals, each bringing their unique backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise, created meaningful discussions on various cardiovascular topics.
During the congress, we conducted a survey among our booth visitors to capture their views on two key topics: home blood pressure monitoring and at-home screening for atrial fibrillation (AF). We asked whether they would recommend home blood pressure monitoring to their patients, if they would endorse OMRON products, if they support home AF screening, and whether they would advise patients to use a blood pressure monitor with AF detection-functionality.
Read on to discover the results.
Home Blood Pressure Monitoring
A notable update in the new ESC 2024 Guidelines emphasizes the importance of home blood pressure monitoring. The guidelines now make it a requirement to use out-of-office measurements for diagnosing and managing hypertension. Furthermore, all adults are encouraged to have their blood pressure measured—either at home or in the office—and recorded in their medical files.
Our survey results align closely with these guidelines, as 98.9% of respondents said they recommend home blood pressure monitoring in their practice.
OMRON Product Recommendations
OMRON Healthcare strives to meet the changing needs of healthcare professionals and patients through innovative products and services. During the congress, we listened carefully to feedback from our booth visitors regarding our products.
From the survey we were pleased to see the confidence healthcare professionals have in our products, with 98.7% of respondents indicating they would recommend OMRON products to a patient or friend.
At-Home Atrial Fibrillation Screening
Screening for atrial fibrillation during blood pressure checks is crucial for several reasons:
Asymptomatic AFib: Many people with AFib show no symptoms, so routine blood pressure checks provide a key opportunity for early detection.
Stroke Risk: Early detection of AFib reduces the risk of stroke.
Hypertension Link: High blood pressure is a significant risk factor for AFib.
Cost-Effectiveness: Blood pressure checks are easy, non-invasive, and widely accessible, making AFib screening a cost-effective option.
Given these benefits, it's encouraging to see that 90% of our survey respondents support home AF screening.
Blood Pressure Monitors with AF Detection
OMRON Healthcare recently introduced three blood pressure monitors with AF detection-functionality: the 'M7 Intelli IT AFib', ‘X7 Smart AFib’ and 'M6 Comfort AFib.' These devices use advanced algorithms, powered by machine learning, to enhance the sensitivity and accuracy of AF detection in a single measurement. Find more information on the technology of these new products on https://www.omron-healthcare.com/professional/intellisense-afib-technology.
Our survey revealed that 90% of respondents would recommend patients to use these innovative monitors with AF detection feature.
Summary of Results:
98.9% recommend home blood pressure monitoring.
98.7% recommend OMRON products.
85 % support at-home AF screening.
90% endorse blood pressure monitors with AF detection.
These findings highlight a strong consensus among healthcare professionals worldwide, showing a shared commitment to reducing cardiovascular risks from the comfort of everyone’s own home.
